Preparing for the Future with 8-Fiber-Based Connectivity Technology

In this webinar:

Recent standard developments have brought to light that multimode fiber-optic circuits constructed in groups of 8 are an efficient means of achieving high-speed connections. For example, the IEEE 802.3bm specifications define a 100-Gbit/sec multimode connection via 4 transmit lanes of 25 Gbits/sec and 4 receive lanes of 25 Gbits/sec. The current IEEE 802.3bs project, still in development, is likely to specify 400-Gbit/sec transmission via 16 multimode fibers in each direction.

This trend toward “multiples-of-8” high-speed networking has prompted the development of corresponding fiber-optic connectivity systems. This presentation details the factors that have given rise to 8-fiber connectivity options. It offers a practical discussion of some products and technologies currently available for this type of connectivity, as well as how to implement a fiber-optic infrastructure based on this 8-fiber concept.

Meet the presenter:

Dwayne Crawford has over 20 years of experience in the datacomm industry, starting in the early days of dial-up Internet, when he founded DirectNET, an Internet service provider.

He has served on several international standards committees, advancing high-performance/low-latency protocols (IEEE-1394, GigE Vision, CameraLink) used in real-time image processing and utilizing high performance computing (HPC) platforms.

Since joining Belden, he has led his team in introducing innovative fiber products with a focus on overall customer solutions. Dwayne is also a Belden Data Center Specialist.

Who Is Belden?

For more than 100 years, customers who have required unsurpassed performance and durability for signal transmission have counted on the Belden brand. In the 20th century, that trust was built on high-performance wire and cable products.

Today, Belden designs, manufactures and sells a comprehensive portfolio of cable, connectivity and networking products for the transmission of signals for data, sound and video applications.
