While lately it seems that all the talk is surrounding 40 and 100 gigabit Ethernet, there has also been plenty of buzz over the past few months regarding 25 gigabit Ethernet. Shortly after several big data center and cloud computing providers like Google, Microsoft, Broadcom, Arista and Mellanox formed the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium earlier this year, IEEE formed a 25G Ethernet study group.
Why the sudden focus on 25 Gig? It simply makes sense from a technology, cost, scalability and flexibility perspective. We already have standards that are comprised of four lanes of 25 Gig, and going to a single lane of 25 Gig doesn’t require too much effort. In addition, it happens to be an ideal option for switch-to-server connections in high-speed computing environments where 10 Gig is no longer faster enough. 25 Gig also works well from a scalability standpoint.
Hydra Assemblies vs. Patch Cords
Now that our FiberExpress Pre-Terminated LSNH Assemblies have hit the market and are becoming more popular for improved performance, faster deployment and better scalability in today’s data centers, many find themselves wondering if they should choose to deploy MPO-to-LC hydra cable assemblies rather than LC duplex patch cords.
Hydra assemblies feature one 12-fibre MPO connector on one end that fans out to 6 duplex LC connectors on the other. They allow for connecting directly from MPO patch panels systems to the LC interface on network equipment, eliminating the need to use MPO-to-LC cassettes and removing an LC connection point from the channel for reduced loss. They can also be ideal for dense fixed environments. However, there are also downtime and cost considerations. Click here for more information to help you decide which is best for your application.
If You Think Pre-term Means Longer Lead Times, Think Again!
By now you’ve probably heard about our new line of FiberExpress Pre-Terminated LSNH Assemblies that offer faster deployment with plug-and-play installation, improved performance with more reliable factory terminations and better scalability to future 40 and 100 gigabit applications. These assemblies lower overall risk and cost due to reduced installation labor, downtime and system maintenance.
But did you also know that these superior pre-terminated fiber cable assemblies are in stock and ready for delivery in our region? That’s right. While some might think pre-terminated means longer lead times, we have a variety of our FiberExpress MPO trunk assemblies available for next-day dispatch. What does that mean for you?
Not only do your customers benefit from the already 90% faster deployment and better performance with virtually no testing or troubleshooting that’s inherent with our factory-terminated fiber assemblies, but there is no need to wait longer than necessary to get your data center up and running. So if you’re looking for yet another reason to choose pre-term fiber, look no further.
Cable Talk – High Frequencies
When it comes to deploying applications that require higher frequencies, choosing the right cable is imperative. The actual size and cross section of cable conductor plays a crucial role, and some inferior cables may report a certain gauge represented as AWG (American Wire Gauge), but have a different cross section. Buyers need to be certain that the cable they choose has sufficient amounts of conductor material to avoid impacting performance.
