Up until now, cable performance in wireless networks has been measured in terms of information capacity: How much data can the cable transmit? How quickly? How reliably? As more wireless devices use Power over Ethernet (PoE) for power and network access, another cable-performance parameter now matters: power delivery efficiency (PDE).

A new LAN deployment strategy called "direct connect" can maximize PDE by effectively connecting equipment to end devices with a channel made entirely of horizontal cabling. The direct-connect strategy requires attachment of a plug and testing in the field.

Ron Tellas

Ron joined Belden in 2016 to help define the roadmap of technology and applications in the enterprise.  Prior to this, he developed cables and connectivity for Panduit and Andrew Corporation (now Commscope). Ron Tellas is a subject-matter expert in RF design and Electromagnetic Propagation.  He represents Belden in the ISO WG3 committee and TIA TR42 Premises Cabling Standards and serves as the editor of the revision to TIA TSB-184; Guidelines for Supporting Power Delivery Over Balanced Twisted-Pair Cabling.  Ron is the inventor of 16 US patents.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University.
