Launching Data Center Solutions in Ireland
Ireland_island_flagAs part of our data center solutions launch, our team held a one-day event on Wednesday June 24 for key target customers, including consultants and installers working on major data center projects in Dublin, Ireland. The event introduced Belden racks and enclosures, PDUs, the PatchPro® Intelligent Patching Solution and the latest FiberExpress pre-term assemblies and FX UHD System. We also held a training session on Tuesday, June 23 in conjunction with our PartnerAlliance member Temple, an Irish owned and managed distributor.

CatSnake™ Category 6A S/FTP: How Far Can You Go?
CatSnakeDistancesDesigned to meet the requirements of the latest digital audio formats, Belden CatSnake™ Category 6A S/FTP cables deliver superior performance, maximum uptime and reliability for broadcasting of critical live events. In addition to providing exceptional flexibility and flex life, these cables offer extended transmission lengths for today’s Ethernet applications.

Ethernet standards like ISO/IEC 11801 specify a minimum of 5 dB for attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio (ACR) at a cable’s highest operating frequency, based on a 100-meter channel (90 m link and 10 m patch cable). Category 6 S/FTP CatSnake cable is rated for 100 m at 250 MHz. However, if you use CatSnake category 6A S/FTP cable only up to 100 MHz (which supports 1 gigabit Ethernet applications) you can go as far as 175 meters! Download the CatSnake distance table to see just how far you can go.

A Review of Fiber Week II
The week of June 2 marked the second annual Fiber Week event, held in our Montreal location. This year’s session drew 35+ Belden fiber experts from around the globe, across all platforms and in multiple roles within the organization including PLMs, Sales Engineers, Tech Support and Operations. External support was provided by Fluke and JDSU.

This in-depth training featured extensive hands-on work with FX Brilliance Universal, Fusion Splicing and testing. Attendees also took part in terminating competitive product such as Corning’s Unicam and AFL’s Fast.

Here were some key installation tip takeaways for the FX Brilliance Universal:

  • Don’t forgot to mark the buffer with a pen while the cable is still in the cleaver

  • Insert the fiber into the connector by squeezing the fiber between your thumb and the installation handle, then sliding your thumb towards the connector to advance the fiber into the connector

  • Keep your fingers away from the fiber near the back of the connector

  • Inspect before you Connect: Visual inspection of the fiber endface for cleanliness and wear is a requirement EVERYTIME a connection is made

  • Always close the activator before using the VFL test
