Traditionally, the IBC Show is the kick-off for moving into year-end for our broadcast business. This year for the first time, we will come together with our sister company Grass Valley. The focus will be on combining our products with the Grass Valley range of solutions, demonstrating Belden's capability of providing end-to-end solutions in this dynamic market. IBC will be a foundational event, further strengthening relationships internally and with our customers to enable joint project pursuit—a key pillar for our continued success in the broadcast market. I'm looking forward to seeing these endeavors come to fruition throughout the remainder of the year and beyond. I wish you a successful month!
Phasing Out Redundant Multimode OM2
We have offered our customers a variety of OM2 multimode fibre types for several years. As you might have noticed, some OM2 fibre types have disappeared from our recently updated Belden Optical Fibre Cable Catalogue. While IEEE standards specified a modal bandwidth of at least 500/500 MHz•km for OM2 fibre, those that were introduced with a higher modal bandwidth of 600/1200 MHz•km are not suited for today’s laser-based VCSEL transceivers. Project Win! Commonwealth Games
We are pleased to announce that several kilometers of Belden HD video cables and Category 6 UTP data cables were selected to connect broadcasting vehicles and technical operation centres within the International Broadcasting Centre at the recent 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. As the largest multi-sport event in Scotland with nearly 5,000 athletes from more than 70 different nations competing, the event required reliable, high-performance signal transmission. SVGTV, the host broadcaster responsible for delivering HD coverage of event, selected Belden due to our reputation in the industry and quality cables that exceed standards to allow for longer HD cable runs and feature superior crush resistance that minimizes the effects of installation and handling for overall better performance.
